摘要：The purpose of this article is to commerate the life and work of the father of Clinical Microbiology, Robert Koch. Original manuscripts of Robert Koch were carefully studied, as well as contemporary reviews, articles and biographies; a detailed PubMed search was conducted. Koch set the basis for the investigation of the aetiology of infectious diseases by formulating his famous Koch postulates. He was the first to discover the aetiological agents of anthrax, tuberculosis, cholera and was also involved in the study of tropical diseases such as malaria and sleeping sickness. Overall, his work is considered monumental and pioneering for his times, and, indisputably, is considered to be the father of modern Medical Microbiology.
