摘要:Objectives: This study was aimed at determining the prevalence of wound infections and susceptibility profile of associated aerobic bacteria along with special reference to MRSA from patients at a rural tertiary hospital. Materials and Methods: Wound swabs collected from 356 patients were processed to investigate bacterial agents using standard microbiological techniques. Disc diffusion method was used to find out the susceptibility of bacterial agents. Methicillin resistance was determined by cefoxitin disc diffusion method. Results: Out of 356 wound swabs, 247 samples yielded significant bacterial growth. Staphylococcus aureus (37.12%) was the most predominant isolate followed by Klebsiella sps (20.25%). Most prevalent wound type was surgical (74.21%). Overall prevalence of MRSA was (23.47%). All Gram positive cocci were susceptible to vancomycin and linezolid including MRSA. All Gram negative bacilli showed good response towards amikacin, piperacillin-tazobactum and imipenem in a range of 70-100%. Conclusion: Staphylococcus aureus is the most prevalent organism among wound infections. The prevalence of MRSA was 23.47% and more number of MRSA isolates were multidrug resistant as compared with the MSSA isolates. Vancomycin and linezolid continue to remain the mainstay for treatment for MRSA infections.
