Some indicators show great local variation according to their environment (such as relief or vegetation). This is the case for precipitation, especially when, as in Africa, it is primarily convective. The methods and tools allowing effective cross-use of these two types of information range from nested models to statistical models and include mixed approaches. These techniques, still under development, are necessary to correctly conduct impact studies related to short- or intermediate-term climatic variability, especially as it affects the extension of vector-borne diseases.
