Towards this end, researchers, like those responsible for planning their work, rely on reductionism, which has long led to scientific success. At the same time, the ensuing complexity and interdependence are likely to cause risks unperceived by society and still less by those who are their source. The object of this essay is to show the urgency for scientists to be concerned about the fate of the artifacts they create or allow to be created. To reach this objective “humbly”, we propose the principle of “Socially Responsible Research”.
