The second, presented here, sought to understand the relation inhabitants found between local infrastructure and effects on their health, to identify the protective mechanisms they implemented and to analyse the discourse about health in more detail. The aim was to relate the expression of complaints to their life in the village. Three distinct groups were identified, the largest of which succeeds in putting their complaints into perspective, balanced by the benefits to their quality of life. All resources – personal, family, professional or health-related – were protective, while one or more disruptions or problems in these areas negatively affected health.
