Combined with changes in water use also induced by climate change, these factors may lead to increased exposure to these pathogens and an increased incidence of the associated diseases. This article summarizes these potential changes for various types of pathogens (bacteria, cyanobacteria and protozoa) that produce toxins and contaminate humans through ingestion or inhalation and are found in different aquatic environments (fresh and salt water): vibrios, Legionella, cyanobacteria and free-living amoebae.
