The overall objective of the PAISARC+ project is to test a new approach to characterising neighbourhood deprivation, one that incorporates a wide variety of relevant variables by using alternative definitions of space. From locally available data, we grouped 27 variables (social, economic and related to accessibility of services) into four domains: socioeconomic, social cohesion (psychosocial environment), physical environment and public resources. We conducted a multiple factor analysis (MFA) that allowed us to construct a specific typology for the Strasbourg metropolitan area. Our results indicate that our data-driven typology approach, comparing populations clustered by profile rather than using a single score, makes it possible to take into account the various dimensions of deprivation that characterise our study area.
