Its etiology remains unknown, and the uncertainty associated with it can be stressful. As the complexity of these crises has remained unexplained for several decades, we propose research hypotheses related to environmental quality, representations of the environment, social dynamics, communication processes, and management of uncertainty. We conducted a case study to develop a multi-criteria method based on social and environmental psychological, technical and sensory investigations. The data demonstrate the relevance of an interdisciplinary approach for explaining the emergence and the course of SBS.
