Recent studies brought to the identification of three main markers or concepts involved in irony comprehension: prosody, context, and lexicon. In this paper, these markers are linked to the main psycholinguistic theories and neuroanatomical hypotheses of irony comprehension in order to improve our understanding of irony comprehension and its cognitive and neuronal underlying processes. Pooling together psycholinguistic, cognitive, and neuroanatomical bases of irony comprehension is seen as a novel way to better understand this complex linguistic construct.
