Page(s) : 285-8 Published in: 1993 This text sketches the « state of the art » of economic discussions about the cost of abating greenhouse gases emissions. It demonstrates the links between various modelling approaches (top-down versus bottom-up) and the debates about « no regret strategies ». It points out the deadlocks rising from the difficulty of assessing the efficiency of economic incentives on consumer behaviour and innovation trends over the long term. The conclusion focusses on the necessity to priorize researches on sectors other than energy as a precondition to account for the specifics of each country.
