Remote sensing is used for the development of a means to facilitate decision-making in land management. Two main lines are considered: on the one hand, identification of lowlands and potentially humid regions in the area; and on the other hand, distinction between the various surface types and humid-soil land-use types. The processing methods put forward are based on diachronic analysis of two high-resolution satellite pictures: one, the Landsat Thematic Mapper taken at the end of the "rainy" season; the other, a Spot XS taken at the end of the growing season. The research was carried out in the Comoe region of south-west Burkino Faso. The processed results allow the potential of remote sensing to be demonstrated in the detection of humid zones, the evaluation of their spatial distribution, studying the conditions of submersion, and in establishing the impact human activity has on these zones.
