Page(s) : 170-8 Published in: 1990 The study of the relative variations of albedo and surface temperature indicate two specific stages: the «radiative one» and the «hydric one», which correspond to two very different states of hydric alimentation of plants. This result is applied to study seasonal variations of the hydric state of the soil in North Africa using NOAA imagery. It seems possible to use this methodology to caracterize the evolution of the desert in the Maghreb area using images over succesive years.
