While variability in the interseasonal weather types associated with the sirocco remain negligible, during such episodes the diurnal thermal amplitudes are higher than the monthly averages, the maximum temperatures are relatively high (at least + 4 °C/average), the insolation is relatively long and minimal relative humidity is below 30%. The sirocco can thus be regarded as a risk wind in Sfax because of its impact on agriculture and air quality. This wind increases photochemical pollution, hinders the dispersion of pollutants and directs them towards the most crowded areas of the city.
