摘要:An analysis of fire as an ecological factor and its relation with oaks is presented. An emphasis is placed on the importance that fire has attained from a myth that views it (fire) as an environmental characteristic that favors the presence of oaks. This myth was derived implicitly from a common saying that states where there is fire there are oaks. It is necessary to consider fire as an ecological factor with care. This is due to the possibility that the few species of oaks that are positively associated with fire are in actuality damaged by it. That is to say that fire as an ecological factor works against the survival of oaks. The problem rests in the difficulty of establishing both the damaging and beneficial relationship between fire and oaks due to the lack of knowledge about the behavior of the Mexican species Quercus.
