摘要：O artigo analisa o processo de revitalização dos espaços urbanos visando a sua incorporação à atividade turística, tendo como foco de análise a reconfiguração do patrimônio cultural do centro histórico de São Luís, Maranhão. Para tanto o estudo relaciona questões de identidade (HALL, 2000), trânsito turístico (SIMÕES, 2008) e globalização (APPADURAI, 1999), detendo-se nas práticas de visibilidade e multifuncionalidade da cultura no contexto contemporâneo. Por meio de pesquisa bibliográfica e documental (DENCKER, 2003) e da observação não participante, o estudo apresenta exemplos de reconfiguração do patrimônio cultural no centro histórico de São Luís. Constatou-se que as ações públicas de preservação patrimonial possibilitaram a revalorização do acervo arquitetônico e a reconstrução da memória por meio da atividade turística, ao tempo em que a revitalização do espaço urbano ocasionou alterações na dinâmica sóciocultural local. A pesquisa aponta para a necessidade de uma maior interação entre o global e o local na promoção da sustentabilidade dos projetos turísticos.
其他摘要：The article analyzes the process of revitalization of the urban spaces aiming at its incorporation to the tourist activity, having as focus of analysis the reconfiguration of the cultural patrimony of the historical center of São Luis, Maranhao. For in such a way the study it relates identity questions (HALL, 2000), tourist transit (SIMOES, 2008) and globalization (APPADURAI, 1999), lingering itself in practical of visibility and the multifunctionality of the culture in the context contemporary. By means of documentary bibliographical research ( DENCKER, 2003) and of the not participant comment, the study it presents examples of reconfiguration of the cultural patrimony in the historical center of São Luís. One evidenced that the criminal actions of patrimonial preservation make possible the revalorization of the quantity architectural and the reconstruction of the memory by means of the tourist activity, to the time where the revitalization of the urban space caused to alterations in the sociocultural dynamics. The research points with respect to the necessity of a bigger interaction between global and the place in the promotion of the sustainable of the tourist projects.
