This article derives from a sort of ethnographic exercise oriented at determining the genetics and the productive conditions of a quotidian feeling that has been forged in popular urban sectors as to President Chávez. With this goal in mind, anonymous participatory observations were made, utilizing thematic direction in ethnographic spaces of popular public access (route taxis) in the city of Maracaibo (Venezuela), during the period February 12th to24th, 1999. The thematic occurrences tended to group themselves around two significant positions: a sense of omnipotence, and the construction of a new order, and around these two positions, realities of a second order were constructed, and intervened with hermeneutically through conceptual contrivances, the conception of which was related to value structures pre-constructed by the authors. From this emerged the nature of the concluding observations: Chávez appears as a representation of a collective salvation figure for segments of the population that had been previously excluded from representation, and he had apparently returned to a pre-modern era. There was also the need for an authoritative reordering of society which implied the traumatic re-founding of unedited mediations.
