摘要：En este artículo se ofrecen varios elementos de carácter teórico acerca de las implicaciones y determinantes sociales del conocimiento científico, así como del lugar de la investigación científica en las universidades de los países industrializados y las naciones en desarrollo. En cuanto a las aportaciones de la sociología de la ciencia al debate actual acerca del papel de esta última en la sociedad, se revisan las perspectivas funcionalista y no funcionalista. Asimismo, mediante la discusión de la universidad como el hogar de la ciencia, se cuestiona la responsabilidad que aquélla tiene para responder a las demandas y necesidades sociales.
其他摘要：In this article the author presents a number of theoretical elements regarding the implications and social determinations of scientific knowledge. The role of scientific research in universities in both the industrialized and the developing countries is also examined. With respect to the contributions of the sociology of science to the current debate on the role of science in society, the funcionalist and non functionalist perspectives are reviewed as well. Finally, by discussing the place of the university as the home of science, the author puts into question the responsibility of the university to meet the demands and needs of society at large.
