摘要：Este ensayo sostiene la idea de que el desarrollo social de los pueblos latinoamericanos está medido y condicionado por su capacidad para crear las bases culturales adecuadas para el crecimiento económico. Tales bases culturales son vistas como una circustancia histórica y, en consecuencia, como una tarea fundamentalmente moral.
其他摘要：If in the course of this work I have not achieved making the reader understand the importance I attribute to the practical experience of the Americans, their habits, their opinions, in a word, their customs, in the maintenance of their laws, I have failed in the aim I set forth when writing it. (Tocqueville, 1980: 292) This essay sustains the idea that social development of Latin American communities is measured and conditioned by their capacity to create adequate cultural bases for economic growth. Such cultural bases are seen as a historical circumstance and, therefore, as a fundamental moral task.
