摘要：This article evaluates the principal changes in the economic structure of the Guadalajara metropolitan area during the 1990s, and identifi es the implications of these changes for the areas functioning as an urban region, as well as its prominence in West-Central Mexico. It also identifi es some implications of the arrival of direct foreign investment in Guadalajara, focusing on the dependence this area has developed vis-a-vis the strategies for expansion and competitiveness of large electronics and telecommunications multinationals.
