摘要：Le but de cet article est de développer une réflexion sur le contenu géographique du roman Frankenstein ou le Prométhée moderne (1818), attribué à Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley. Notre étude, au-delà de l’interprétation mythique du roman, prend comme point de départ l’examen de leurs valeurs et de leur potentiel du point de vue de la géographie (et dans le contexte du romantisme européen du début du XIXe siècle). Les trois éléments sur lesquels s’est basé l’analyse du roman sont: a) une mise en contexte thématique et chronologique du roman ; b) l’évaluation de l’importance du paysage (et d’une manière particulière, des interactions entre nature et paysage), et c) le processus de construction identitaire du protagoniste par rapport au développement global de l’argument.
其他摘要：This article undertakes an analysis of the geography of the novel Frankenstein, or The Modern Prometheus. The work, written by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley and first published in 1818, quickly established itself as a basic reference point of Romantic literature. Above and beyond the obvious mythical interpretations the novel affords, this study considers its value and potential from a geographical perspective (and within the context of early nineteenth century European Romanticism). More specifically, the article provides three levels of analysis: a) the contextualization of the novel from a thematic and chronological point of view; b) the significance of the landscape at different scales, and c) the process by which Frankenstein’s “monster” constructs an identity of self, which allows him to question the world and the society in which he moves.
