摘要：Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo cujo objetivo é analisar os significados que a violência assume em diferentes contextos sociais e as formas como se manifesta no cotidiano escolar, a partir dos depoimentos de jovens e educadores de escolas públicas e privadas de três municípios brasileiros - Iguatu (CE); Juiz de Fora (MG) e Campinas (SP). Investiga-se o sentido atribuído às práticas de violência, como o porte de arma de fogo no ambiente escolar, e a inter-relação entre essas práticas e as instituições que cumprem um papel de socialização dos jovens: escola e família. Dada a centralidade que hoje dispõem os meios de comunicação na sociedade, sobretudo a televisão, busca-se também refletir sobre novas estratégias para o enfrentamento da violência a partir de sua interseção no cotidiano da escola. Conclui-se que o lugar da escola e da família como fontes privilegiadas de mediações possibilita uma atuação ampla no campo da prevenção da violência. Mas é necessário que essas instituições caminhem juntas, buscando principalmente estabelecer uma relação respeitosa com os jovens. No que concerne ao papel da mídia evidenciou-se a necessidade da escola trabalhar como mediadora na reflexão crítica dos conteúdos sobre a violência veiculados pelos meios de comunicação.
其他摘要：This is a qualitative study aiming to examine the levels of violence in different social contexts and the ways violence appears daily in schools, starting from statements of youths and educators in public and private schools in three Brazilian municipalities - Iguatu (CE); Juiz de Fora (MG) and Campinas (SP). It surveyed the sense attributed to the practice of violence, as carrying firearms in the school environment, and the interrelationship between these practices and the institutions that carry out the role of socializing the youths: school and family. Given the importance that they have today, the media in society, above all television, also attempt to reflect on new strategies for combating violence starting from its meeting point with daily schoolwork. The conclusion is that the role of the school and the family as advantaged sources of mediation enables wide performance in the field of violence prevention. But these institutions need to work together, seeking mainly to establish a respectful relationship with the young people. As to the role of the media, the need was clear for the school to work as mediator in the critical evaluation of the violent contents broadcast by the media.
