摘要：El funcionamiento de la organización geográfica del Santo Oficio, explicada a partir de las jurisdicciones diocesanas, no representa ninguna dificultad, toda vez que hubo una definición precisa de los límites de los obispados y arzobispados de la Nueva España. No obstante, desde principios del siglo xvii, sus colosales dimensiones orillaron al nombramiento de comisarios en ciudades, villas, reales de minas, puertos o pueblos del distrito que contaran con una importante población no india. Esta fragmentación contribuyó a fracturar la autoridad de las cabeceras de las diócesis novohispanas y redefinir la organización del espacio al interior de los distritos diocesanos.

The functioning of the geographic organization of Holy Office, explained from the diocesan jurisdictions, does not represent any difficulty every time there was a precise definition of the limits of the bishoprics and archbishoprics of the New Spain. However, since the beginning of the xvii century, their colossal dimensions drove the appointment of comisarios in cities, towns, real of mines, ports or district towns that counted with an important non indian population. This fragmentation contributed to fracture the authority of the heads of the novohispanic dioceses and to redefine the organization of the space into the interior of the diocesan districts.
