摘要：Nosso objetivo é discutir a relação entre o efeito placebo e metilfenidato, fármaco utilizado no tratamento do Transtorno de déficit de atenção com hiperatividade (TDAH), por meio do conceito de resposta de significado de Daniel Moerman (2002). A resposta de significado está relacionada ao efeito placebo, porém amplia esse conceito, já que também considera os efeitos psicológicos e fisiológicos do significado do tratamento de uma doença ou de um mal-estar, ou seja, envolve tanto substâncias inertes (placebo) quanto medidas terapêuticas. Foram analisados artigos científicos que compararam os efeitos do metilfenidato com placebo. A busca se deu na base de dados Pubmed, no período de 2000 a 2010. Observamos que a resposta de significado ocorre em estudos com metilfenidato e placebo, porém sugerimos que essa resposta tem início no momento em que o indivíduo e sua família recebem o diagnóstico do TDAH, que pode ser encarado como uma forma de alívio para os problemas comportamentais e esperança de eficácia do tratamento com metilfenidato.
其他摘要：This article aims to discuss the relations between the placebo effect and methylphenidate, a drug used in the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), through the concept of meaning response elaborated by Daniel Moerman (2002). Meaning response is related to the placebo effect, but covers a wider range of phenomena. It takes into account the psychological and physiological effects that go along with the meanings that people give to their diseases or illnesses, which involves both the effects of inert substances and standard medication. The study analyzed scientific papers that compared the effects of methylphenidate to placebo. The search has occurred in the Pubmed database for the period 2000-2010. We observe that the meaning response occurs in studies comparing methylphenidate and placebo, however we suggest that this response starts before the treatment. In other words, it starts when the individual and his family receive the ADHD diagnostic, which may represent relief to their behavioral problems and hope that the methylphenidate treatment will be efficient.
