其他摘要：The first part of this paper digressed about Christendom as a un iversal society with the Roman Pontiff at it’s head. In the second part we analyze the theor y of plenitudo potestatis of the Pope in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, between the pon tificates of Innocent III and Boniface VIII. This term was initially applied only in re spect to ecclesiastical and spiritual matters, but then it was extended to political and also s ecular matters. The theory of plenitudo potestatis allowed the Pope to maintain the distinc tion between the spiritual and temporal powers but, at the same time, ensured the unitary nature of Christian society.
