摘要：G. C. Lichtenberg (1742-1799) foi um cientista experimental e professor de física, em Göttingen, Alemanha, onde exerceu intensa atividade como editor e crítico. Deixou diversos cadernos de aforismos, que só foram publicados e estudados depois de sua morte. Sua orientação intelectual iluminista o levou a professar um tipo de deísmo, o que, associado a sua verve de cronista espirituoso, resultou em inúmeras notas críticas sobre a fé e a religião. Este artigo apresenta a crítica de cinco tradutores e editores da obra de Lichtenberg e traz uma amostra de aforismos em tradução direta do alemão.

Lichtenberg (1742-1799) was an experimental scientist and a physics teacher, at the Göttingen University, Germany, where he pursued an intense cultural activity in fields such as publishing and critics. He left several manuscript volumes - his so called “Wastebooks” - with aphorisms and biographical sketches, which were only published after his death. His illuminist intellectual orientation led him to profess a kind of deism and this, in association with his satiric spirit, inspired him to write several critical notes on faith and religion. This paper aims to present the opinion and evaluation of five prominent editor and translators. As an appendix, a sample of some freshly translated Lichtenberg’s aphorisms will be offered to the readers, on the topics faith, religion and God.
