The recent archaeological reevaluation of the only known mummified remains from the Cementerio Las Turquesas site, links its bioanthropological and material contexts to the nearby residential and turquoise mining site of Mina Las Turquesas, recently excavated. Fieldwork there provided evidence of a long-span preinka settlement, and our appraisal reaffirms this on the basis of the recently undertaken cultural adscription of human remains, that has allowed us to posit that both sites were part of the economically and ritually significative Atacameño sphere of interaction, fundamentally within the Late Intermediate Period.
