摘要：El propósito de esta monografía es hacer una lectura del diario de viaje Diario de una Residencia en Chile durante el año 1822 (1824) de la escritora y viajante inglesa Maria Graham (1785-1824), con la intención de mostrar como la autora se identifi ca con lo que M. L. Pratt (1992) ha llamado la vanguardia capitalista y su misión civilizadora y, de esa manera, se coloca en el centro del discurso colonial inglés.

L Pratt (1992) has called the capitalist vanguard and its civilizing mission and, in this way, places herself at the core of English colonial discourse.
