This article presents a synthetic view of human development as a process that extends the comprehensive framework of psychological understanding, by portraying a view, which combines the notions of progression, increasing complexity, recursivity, synergy and stability of change, as the basic dynamics of life in society. It is claimed that, it is by capturing this basic dynamics that it becomes possible to intervene, mainly based on the natural resilience of individuals, families and communities, by focusing the intervention on the change processes which are inherent to development, but which need to be re-signified in order to produce a subversive change. This approach is used by the author on his psychosocial community action work in poverty stricken neighborhoods. The text first presents the theoretical foundations, followed by the elements of context that were recognized in the process of drafting a general diagnosis of the "Araucanía" region, in Southern Chile. This led the author to develop a proposal of an integrated action-research approach aimed at transforming specific human realities, characterized by their impeded development.
