摘要：En este artículo se investigó el área psicosocial de 58 pacientes residentes en Puerto Rico con la condición de epilepsia. Se utilizó el Inventario Psicosocial Washington de Ataques Epilépticos. Consistente con investigaciones realizadas en otros países, encontramos que las áreas más afectadas fueron la de ajuste emocional, ajuste interpersonal y ajuste a las convulsiones. Las dificultades económicas también resaltaron como importantes. También, consistente con otras investigaciones internacionales, las áreas relacionadas al área médica fueron las de menor preocupación. Estos hallazgos resaltan el hecho de que muchos pacientes con la condición de epilepsia encuentran su mayor reto y dificultades en las áreas emocionales e interpersonales, posiblemente como resultado del alto grado de exclusión social y estigma que estos pacientes padecen.
其他摘要：In the current study, we investigated various psychosocial variables as reported by 58 patients with epilepsy residing in Puerto Rico. We utilized the Washington Psychosocial Seizure Inventory. Consistent with research reported in other countries, we found that the areas that were deeply affected were their interpersonal relationships, emotional life, and deficient coping with their seizures. Many patients identified serious economic difficulties. Consistent also with other investigations, we found that the medical area is identified as less troublesome by our patients. Our findings highlight the fact that patients with epilepsy encounter their main challenge and difficulties in their interpersonal and emotional sphere, possibly as a result of the social exclusion and stigma that those patients typically receive.
