摘要：Se exponen las características hidrológicas y sedimentológicas del sectorde la desembocadura del Estero Nilahue, cuerpo de agua conocido comola laguna de Cahuil, en la costa de la VI Región, en Chile central. Lamarcada variabilidad estacional propia de las condiciones climáticas me-diterráneas se refleja en las variaciones del gasto del estero, el que aldesembocar en una costa dominada por el oleaje, con fuerte transportesedimentario por la deriva litoral, es cerrado por una barra arenosa duran-te los meses de verano. Las precipitaciones invernales aumentan el caudaly el estero rompe la barra, comunicándose con el mar, permitiendo elingreso de la marea dinámica y de salinidad.Durante el período de estuario abierto, la distribución de la salinidad secomporta como la de un estuario fuertemente estratificado. Durante elperíodo de bajos caudales estivales se forma la laguna, la cual presentauna salinidad homogénea con aguas salobres.La distribución de los sedimentos durante el período invernal presenta tresambientes de depositación diferentes, una con predominio de sedimentosmarinos arenosos en la boca, otra con dominio de sedimentos pelíticos enel curso medio del estuario y finalmente depósitos con características flu-viales en el curso superior, situación que permite catalogarlo como unestuario dominado por las mareas.
其他摘要：The hydrological and sedimentological characteristics of the mouth of theNilahue creek, a body of water known as the Cahuil lagoon, on the coastof the Region VI in Central Chile, are presented. The marked seasonalvariability of the mediterranean climatic conditions is demonstrated in thevariations of the creek's runoff, which, upon flowing into the ocean along awave dominated coast with a high sedimentary transport by the littoraldrift, is closed by a sand bar during the summer months. During winterrains the flow increases and the estuary breaks through the bar, connectingit to the ocean, allowing the entrance of the dynamic and salinity tide.During the period with the estuary open to the sea, the salinity distributionbehaves like a highly stratified estuary. During the period with low seaso-nal flow, the lagoon is formed which presents a homogenous salinity withbrackish water.The distribution of the sediments during the winter season presents threedifferent depositional environments, one at the mouth of the estuary with apredominance of sandy marine sediments, another in the middle with apredominance of pelitic sediments, and, finally in the upper part, depositswith fluvial characteristics, thereby allowing it to be catalogued as a tide-dominated estuary.
