摘要：Estimulado por la demanda internacional por bienes y servicios, en 2007 la economía panameña creció en 9,5%, la tasa más alta de la región. El auge económico, sin embargo, ocurre en medio de una delicada situación social, que el sistema político heredado de la dictadura militar no parece capaz de enfrentar. El gobierno del presidente Martín Torrijos se ha manejado exitosamente de acuerdo con las normas formales e informales de ese sistema, incluyendo el clientelismo y la centralización de facultades en el Ejecutivo, en detrimento de la rendición de cuentas. Su incapacidad para atender la deuda social, sin embargo, podría contribuir a producirle serios problemas al país en un futuro no muy lejano.
其他摘要：Stimulated by strong international demand for the country's goods and services, in 2007 Panama's economy grew by 9,5%, the region's highest growth rate. This economic boom, however, occurs in the midst of a sensitive social situation, which the political system, inherited from the military dictatorship, does not seem capable of handling. The administration of President Martín Torrijos has operated successfully according to the formal and informal rules of that system, including clientelism and the concentration of power in the executive, to the detriment of political accountability. The government's incapacity to tackle the country's social debt, however, could contribute to bring about significant problems in the near future.
