其他摘要：The itinerary leading to the 1054 separation between East and West is a long one. The first clash arose in the Council of Chalcedonia (451). Towards the end of the 6th century, the Patriarch of Constantinople assumed the title of «ecumenical patriarch» vis-à-vis the rights of Pope Gregory the Great. This was followed in the 9th century by the serious confrontation in relation to the Filioque. The final clash came in 1054 with the schism of Michael Cærularius. The Crusades, especially the Fourth Crusade in 1204, contributed to the growing rift. There have been several attempts at unification in the second millennium, all to no avail: the II Council of Lyon (1274) and the Council of Florence (concretely, in 1439). There were some partial results however, such as the Union of Brest-Litowsk (16th century) or the lifting of the mutual ex-communication at the end of the II Vatican Council. The recent document of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which came out in 2002 with the title «The Primacy of the Successor of Peter in the Mystery of the Church», could provide a way to resolve the question of the Roman primacy.
