摘要：As fissuras palatinas são problemas médico-odontológico-sociais que se situam entre o 3º ou 4º defeito congênito mais freqüente. No Brasil, dados sugerem a existência de aproximadamente 180.000 fissurados. O presente estudo de revisão teve como objetivo descrever conhecimentos acerca das fissuras palatinas, técnicas cirúrgicas utilizadas como formas de tratamento, bem como a melhor época de intervenção e prognóstico esperado. O tratamento de fissuras palatinas completas propõe-se à correção da fissura e dos problemas a ela associados, devendo ser iniciado em idade prematura, podendo durar vários anos e nem sempre com garantia de sucesso. A partir deste estudo, conclui-se que existe um grande número de técnicas cirúrgicas, as quais variam conforme os cirurgiões que as executam, de acordo com o estado geral do paciente e com as características de cada fissura, que juntos ditam a complexidade do caso.
其他摘要：The cleft palates are medical-dental-social problems that situate themselves between the third or fourth most frequent congenital defects. In Brazil, data suggest that there are approximately 180.000 fissure patients. This revision study aimed at describing the knowledge on cleft palates, surgical techniques used as means of treatment, as well as the best time for intervention and the expected prognosis. The treatment of complete cleft palate considers the correction of the cleft and the problems associated with it. The treatment begins in a premature age, and it can last for some years, the success not being always guaranteed. Through this study, it is concluded that there are a great number of surgical techniques, which vary in accordance with the professional that executes them, with the patients general health state and also with the characteris-tics of each fissure, which together determine the complexity of the case.
