摘要：OBJETIVO: Determinar las diferencias entre la generaciónde Residuos Peligrosos Biológico Infecciosos (RPBI) de unhospital general, efectuar una evaluación económica de esteprograma y una intervención de capacitación en el mismo,durante los años 2000 y 2001.MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS: Se realizó un estudioobservacional, longitudinal, retrospectivo efectuando unaintervención de capacitación en el segundo año de estudioy se realizó la evaluación económica del Programa.RESULTADOS: se redujeron en 21,869 Kg ó 0.5 Kg./cama/día de RPBI en el año de la intervención comprobándoseestadísticamente con la prueba de t de student con unresultado de 3.14 significativo con una p <0,004.En la capacitación se encontró una diferencia en lasproporciones de 0.2% en el año 2000, a 28% en el año 2001.CONCLUSIÓN: El costo de los programas para el año 2000fue de $224,993.6 dólares americanos y para el año 2001 de$185,363 US Dlls. Encontrándose una diferencia de menos$39,630.6 US Dlls. en el año de la intervención.
