摘要：Este artículo se plantea por qué seguimos leyendo el Don Quijote de Miguel de Cervantes cuatrocientos años después de su publicación. Dado que la mayor fascinación sobre los lectores la ejerce posiblemente el propio personaje central de la novela, aquí se investiga quién es el verdadero protagonista de El Quijote. Se analiza, primero, cómo los títulos de la primera y segunda parte reflejan la dualidad del protagonista: el hidalgo Quijano/el caballero Quijote. Segundo, se documenta la actitud del narrador hacia ese hidalgo Quijano con quien empieza y termina la novela. No sólo no se recuerda su pueblo ni su nombre al principio, sino que sólo resucita ante el lector para morir en el último capítulo. Durante todo el libro, el narrador y otros personajes destacan siempre al caballero andante, al loco don Quijote, ocultando insistentemente al hidalgo Quijano. Por último, se lanza una hipótesis de por qué esta ocultación: como un artista, Quijano debe permanecer oculto para que pase a primer plano su creación, Quijote. Tan creador (si no más) como caballero, Quijano tiene más éxito en su labor creadora que Quijote en su empeño caballeresco-militar. 其他摘要：In this article, I ask the question, why do we still read Miguel de Cervantes´ Don Quixote 400 years after it was first published? Since it is mostly Don Quixote himself who has fascinated audiences across centuries, I investigate here who the true protagonist of Don Quixote is. First, I point out how the titles of parts I and II reflect the duality of the novel´s main character: the hidalgo Quijano/the knight errant Don Quixote. Secondly, I document the narrator´s attitude towards Quijano, who dominates the beginning and end of the story. In the first pages, however, the narrator doesn´t remember Quijano´s hometown or even his name, and at the end the hidalgo reappears only to die right after. Throughout the book, the narrator and all characters refer to the novel´s protagonist as Don Quixote, the crazy knight errant, persistently hiding his true identity (Quijano). Lastly, I hypothesize why this happens: like an artist, Quijano must remain invisible so that his creation, Quixote, can be brought forward. A writer and a knight, Quijano succeeds in his creative endeavor more than Quixote in his knightly-military effort. Quijano/Quixote is a discursive hero whose main achievement is his own self-transformation from a bored and boring hidalgo into a knight, admired and looked at by all - including us, his readers 400 years later
