其他摘要:This paper summarizes a long-continuing research programme on the use of reduced environmental stimulation. Experiments concerning the increased level of persuasibility brought about by sensory deprivation led to the development of a technique that was used to enable volunteer clients to reduce or eliminate chronic and undesired cigarette smoking. The results indicate that the technique is at least as powerful as any that has been evaluated in the scientific Iíterature. While further research is necessary, and although theoretícal explications of the effects are as yet ínadequate, it is clear that sensory deprivation can be used to restore the individual´s voluntary control over self-ínjuríous behaviours that for some reason appear to have become autonomous.
