摘要：Este artículo analiza cómo se ha construído parte de la memoria sobre Manuel Saturio Valencia, figura insigne del Chocó, departamento que representa lo negro en Colombia. Valencia fue un hombre negro que llegó a ser juez en medio de una sociedad de mayoría negra, pero dominada por una pequeña elite blanca. En 1907 fue fusilado tras haber sido hallado culpable de tratar de incendiar su ciudad. Entre 1953 y 1992 tres de los más destacados intelectuales del Chocó publicaron sendos libros sobre su vida y su trágica muerte, que muestran diferentes maneras de abordar el espinoso tema del racismo en un país que ha construido una identidad mestiza asociada a la idea de la armonía racial. El artículo analiza el proceso de erección de este personaje en héroe regional, las diferentes estrategias para referirse a la discriminación racial y propone que esta memoria es una manera de afi rmar una identidad regional negra.
其他摘要：This article analyzes the construction of the memory of Manuel Saturio Valencia, a renowned fi gure in Chocó, the quintessentially black department in Colombia. Valencia was a Black man who was able to become a judge in a society that, though mostly Black, was dominated by a small white elite. In 1907, he was executed by fi ring squad after having been found guilty of trying to burn down the department capital. Between 1953 and 1992, three of the most prominent Chocó intellectuals published books on his life and tragic death, showing different ways of addressing the delicate topic of racism in a country that had constructed a mestizo identity tied to the idea of racial harmony. The article analyzes the process of building this fi gure into a regional hero, different strategies of referring to racial discrimination, and suggests that the memories of Valencia help affi rm a Black regional identity.
