Kubik de que las líneas temporales son invariables y cualquier alteración en su estructura matemática disuelve el patrón. Los criterios de Pressing complementan los de R. A. Pérez Fernández, para quien en Latinoamérica ha ocurrido un proceso de transformación que ha convertido los ritmos ternarios africanos, incluidas las líneas temporales, en binarios, debido a un factor sicológico y también a factores socioculturales. They are recognisable even though the mathematical ratios between their values should be altered, as it has happened with the Cuban clave, according to J. Pressing. This refutes G. Kubik´s claim that time lines are invariable and any alteration in their mathematical structure dissolves the pattern. Pressing´s criteria are complementary to those posed by R. A.
