摘要：Este estudo de casos múltiplos e qualitativo investigou, por meio de análise de narrativas, os significados socioculturais e transgeracionais ligados à gestação, parto e nascimento de três gerações de três famílias de mulheres paulistanas auto-denominadas afro-descendentes, residentes em São Paulo, Brasil. As entrevistas foram gravadas e transcritas segundo preceitos éticos. Os dados foram organizados em dois núcleos temáticos: gravidez e parto, estruturados por perguntas orientadoras da análise: Como soube que estava grávida e como reagiu; Como foi sua gravidez e parto; O que você sentiu quando o seu filho nasceu. Da ausência de cuidados médicos especializados na primeira geração, o sistema se tornou cada vez mais medicalizado nas gerações seguintes, variando o tipo de atendimento médico segundo a inserção socioeconômica e nível de escolaridade das mulheres. Assim, o binômio gestação/maternidade transcendeu aspectos étnico-raciais, estando permeado pela cultura vigente e pelo contexto social, facilitando ou não o acesso à informação, serviços e cuidados.
其他摘要：This multiple qualitative case study investigated, though the technique of narrative analysis, the social-cultural and transgenerational meanings of pregnancy, delivery and birth among three generations of three families of Black women who lived in São Paulo, Brazil. Interviews have been recorded and transcript in accordance to ethic precepts. Data have been organized under two core themes: pregnancy and delivery. Orientation questions were used in order to structure the categories: How did you find out you were pregnant and what did you feel; What was your pregnancy and delivery like; How did you feel when your child was born. From a lack of specialized medical care in the first generation, the system became a medical matter for the subsequent generations, the kind of medical care varying according to the women' social economic position and the educational background. Thus, the binomial pregnancy and maternity has transcended ethnic racial aspects being permeated by the living culture and by the social context, facilitating or not the access to information, services and care.
