摘要：O artigo analisa as transformações que atingem o meio rural gaúcho nos cinco primeiros anos do século XXI, demonstrando o impacto da desagrarização e da pluriatividade a partir das informações fornecidas pela Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílio. Com base nos dados disponíveis é destacada a queda na capacidade da agricultura em ocupar a força de trabalho residente nos estabelecimentos familiares.
