Los estudios de trayectorias educativas y laborales de jóvenes que viene realizando el Grupo de Psicología de la Orientación, permiten situar la importancia que tienen las representaciones sociales sobre la formación y la futura profesión, en el desarrollo de la carrera de los estudiantes universitarios. Se ha considerado relevante profundizar en el conocimiento de dichas representaciones, a fin de comprender su relación con la construcción de las trayectorias y la orientación hacia la futura inserción profesional. Se trata de un estudio exploratorio y descriptivo, en el que se utilizaron técnicas cuantitativas y cualitativas para la recolección de los datos. Se presenta el análisis de los datos cualitativos obtenidos a partir de las entrevistas realizadas a graduados recientes y a estudiantes universitarios de Psicología, en diferentes momentos del desarrollo de su carrera. El marco teórico en que se basa el análisis corresponde a la Psicología de la Orientación y a la Psicología Social. En las conclusiones se destaca que la formación orienta la elección de áreas de inserción y ejercicio profesional. Los estudiantes manifiestan la fuerte impronta clínica que tiene la carrera, lo que se corrobora con el peso que tienen dichas asignaturas en la currícula. Es posible pensar que estos estudiantes consideran al quehacer clínico como el central cuando no el único para la práctica profesional, a pesar de visualizarlo con bajas posibilidades de inserción profesional rentada. Contrariamente, otras áreas son consideradas periféricas en relación a los intereses de los estudiantes y graduados recientes, pero con mayores posibilidades de inserción profesional rentada.

The research team from the Guidance Psychology Group has been studying education and work paths in young people. These studies outstand the importance that social representations have over the years in education and the future development of the career selection in the students attending university. In order to understand its relationship with the career path construction and the counseling for future professional inclusion, it has been considered relevant to deepen the study in the knowledge of such representations. It is about an exploratory and descriptive study in which quantitative and qualitative techniques were used to collect data. The analysis of the qualitative data was obtained through the interviews carried out with recent graduate and current undergraduate students of Psychology, during different periods of their career path. The analysis is based on the Guidance and Social Psychology theory. The conclusions stand out the fact that education guides the selection of areas of inclusion and professional performance. The students manifest the tendency towards the clinical point of view that has the career in Psychology. This has been corroborated by the amount of classes on Clinical Psychology that is included in the curricula. It might be considered that students are inclined to believe that Clinical Psychology is the main role, even though not the only one, for the professional practice. Though, they visualize it with little expectations of a good economic income as a professional practice. Other areas are considered peripheral in relation to the interests of the undergraduate and graduate students, but they are considered to have better possibilities of a good economic income in the professional world.
