En este artículo, se pretende brindar una nueva perspectiva al respecto de la atribución de funciones en biología. La idea consiste en considerar que los conceptos funcionales son conceptos primitivos de una teoría científica, tal como desarrollada por Darwin en sus textos sobre la fecundación cruzada. Intentaré mostrar que teorías, que hacen ese uso de los conceptos funcionales, tienen características sintomáticas de teorías consideradas habitualmente genuinas y compararé mi enfoque con otros alternativos acerca de las funciones. En la reconstrucción, se presupondrán las herramientas del estructuralismo metateórico.

This article proposes a new perspective on the attribution of functions in biology. The main idea is to consider functional concepts as primitive concepts of a scientific theory, such as the theory developed in Darwin's texts about cross fertilization. I will show that theories that use functional concepts in this way have characteristics that are typical of theories usually regarded as genuine, and I will compare my approach with alternative approaches about functions. In the reconstruction, I will presuppose metatheoretical structuralism tools.
