La gestión de inventarios tiene una incidencia directa en el retorno de la inversión de recursos y la disponibilidad de productos y servicios a los clientes, siendo necesario medir la efectividad de la misma y acciones de mejoras adecuadas a implementar. Las investigaciones en gestión de inventarios se basan en el estudio y aplicación de modelos matemáticos, aunque existe una tendencia a evaluar la gestión organizacional relacionada a los inventarios, pero está aún segmentada en las operaciones de distribución o procesos específicos que impactan al inventario sin una visión integral. A través del análisis de bibliografía especializada, modelos de referencia y normas existentes, se propone la evaluación de los aspectos organizacionales que afectan a la gestión de los inventarios a partir de referenciales y así definir la estrategia de desarrollo, ya que solo con la aplicación de modelos de investigación de operaciones para gestionar el inventario no es posible garantizar su efectividad.

The inventory management has a direct incidence in the return of the investment and the availability of products and services to the customers. That is why it is necessary to measure the performance and the results, as well as to know the best actions of improvement that should be implemented. The research in inventory management is based on mathematical models, although there is a tendency to evaluate the organizational management related to the inventories, but it is still segmented in the distribution operations or specific processes which impact the inventory without a comprehensive vision. Through the analysis of specialized bibliography, reference models and standards, it is proposed the evaluation of the organizational aspects that affect the inventory management, starting from referents to define the development strategy, since only with the application of models of operational research to manage the inventory it is not possible to guarantee their effectiveness.
