摘要：General education courses are important in preparing a student for life. Often, agricultural economics courses are perceived to be vocational and not particularly well-suited to the development of life-long skills. This paper considers the eight life-long skills cited as being important to a student's general education at Louisiana State University and argues that varied bits of subject matter presented in the Commodity Exchange and Futures Trading Course contribute to the development of each one of these skills. Such contributions need to be pointed out to those who argue for more general education courses in the curriculum at the expense of discipline courses.
