摘要:This issue is largely devoted to a m atter of great concern to many - girls in the CD T subject area, or rather, their relative absence from it ! It is clear that, by tradition, girls tend not to opt for this apparently male - dominate d a r ea of t h e curriculu , m, an area demanding m ys terious skills involving the use of heavy tools and machinery, physical strengths, technical terminol ogy a nd the like - many feel that even if they did o p t for this alien subject, they would be heavily o u t numbered by the boys and perhaps made to feel in a de qu ate or out of place. In most schools, CDT departmen t s ha v e t o compete with the traditional gi r ls' su b j e ct areas for the few who eventually follow a CDT Co urse - in broad, frank terms then, at p re se nt , CD T is part of the curriculum for only 50% of m i xed s cho o ls' populations! This state of affairs is obviously tota ll y unacceptable and contributors to this i s s u e pres e nt details of the existmg situation and are able to prove that girls are easily as capable as boys in t h i s subject area, and indeed able to outperform t h e m o n occasion!
