  • 摘要:This paper presents the influence of austempering temperature and time on nodular FCD 40 cast iron austempering. Austempered ductile iron (ADI) has excellent mechanical properties such as high strength, good duct ty and superior wear resistance. It is therefore considered as an economical substitute for wrought or forged steel in several structural applications, especially in the automotive industry. Succesful application of ADI as a structural component required optimization of its mechanical properties. The mechanical properties or microstructure of ADI are influenced by chemical composition and austempering heat treatment parameters. The present study investigated the effect of austempering temperature (300, 350, and 400oC) and austempering time (30, 60, and 90 minutes) on hardness of nodular cast iron FCD 40. The result indicates that hardness of material decrease with an increase in austempering temperature. Whereas austempering time has no significant effect on hardness of the material
