摘要：Information theory, which originated in Tele-communication studies, is a branch of Mathematical statistics with many applications of statistical inference. The three fundamental problems are: (i) Development of statistical measures of information capacity in a Communication system, (ii) the transmission problem of information in a system, and (iii) analytical study of reception from a statistical decision point of view. This paper is an attempt to present a comprehensive study of all three aspects. In addition, application of sequential analysis, specially with reference to radar signal detection and range estimation has been briefly discussed. Finally from the point of view of signal reception in the case of a radar, the problem has been considered as a statistical decision study. In conclusion, the computational problems as well as certain comparative studies have been briefly touched upon. Illustrative examples are given and graphs are shown wherever necessary.
