摘要:This Workshop, organised by the OMIG Committee, provides an opportunity to discuss the important issue of the role of oral streptococci, sometimes still referred to as viridans streptococci, as opportunistic pathogens. It is well recognised that the mouth harbours large numbers of streptococci, representing several different species, and that these may preferential1 colonise different areas within the oral cavity.3,5 Furthermore, it has also been known for many years that streptococci originating from the mouth can cause significant, life-threatening infections in other parts of the body, such as infective endocarditis and abscesses in various organs.1,4,5
