摘要:Recently three new species of Bacteroides (Bacteroides caccae, B. merdae and B. stercoris), included in the Bacteroides fragilis group, have been isolated from human faeces. We studied the presence of these species in the meconium and faeces of nine newborns. B. caccae was isolated in eight samples from two newborns and B. merdae in five samples from one neonate. In these newborns colonisation began at 2 and 4 d respectively. B. stercoris was not isolated. Accordingly, we believe that the new species of Bacteroides, belonging to the homologous group of B. distasonis (B. caccae and B. merdae) are normal colonisers during the immediate postnatal period, but B. stercoris probably is not. Keywords: Bacteroides: Infant faecal flora.
