摘要：One of the more interesting problems of Italian phonology, which has cropped up again and again for over five hundred years, is the description of the so-called geminate consonants. As I attempted to argue in a previous study (Danesi 1977), the problem of the geminates involves certain basic analytical procedures which have implications for phonological theory in general.
